Hi peeps this post is basically a re-wording of my last post as I dont think I worded it correctly. So here goes again..

I want to keep the visual layout in the link unaltered, but would (if possible) like to get rid of the div called "navigation". I want to use just UL's, Li's, spans etc instead of the div if possible. Basically rename the navigation div into a UL or span and keep the layout unchanged? With me?

Can it be done? I just want to avoid using too many divs.

In your case I think the #navigation div is warranted. It groups the two unordered lists into a semantic unit, as well as allows you to contain them in a red background when they're floated. You could take it out if you wanted (you'd have to place a background of the red color on the #backgroundDiv and lower the placement of the faux column by the height of the old nav div), but personally I think it's better markup to keep the div in.
