print black only when colour cartridge needs replaced for Epson Stylus D78

Is there anyway to make my Epson Stylus D78 think the magenta cartridge is still there? I'm sure there's something up with the printer as when i was taking the cartridges in and out it would say the cyan needs changed, then the magenta...then them all!!!!!

Whats the problem with it? I'm trying to print out a small text document, but it keep stopping telling me I need to buy another cartridge!! Problem is....i've hardly used any of them and the printer has been switched of for a few months now.

This is why I avoid using $50 printers... I swear they don't even check the ink before disabling the printer and claiming the cartridges are empty. They make all their money on ink.
