Please As I see the .xml files?

I am searching .xml files on the www.yahoo.com. The output shows .html files and as "option" View as XML. I enter in "view as xml" and I read the message: "You want download this file" and I see the file has the extension ".rdf". In other link I enter in "View as xml" and open a file with "rss" extension. I see its "source code is like .xml

As I open online a RDF file? The XML files don´t work as .html files?

RDF and RSS files are also XML. XML is a class of languages which includes RDF, RSS, XHTML, and many others.

In true any XML file lives alone? no Html?

Files written in .ASP, for example, lives alone, no needs html code.
I am thinking to purchase a book or two about XML, but...
