Missing desktop icons / files on download

I wonder if anyone can help me with a problem of dissapearing / missing icons / files after downloading.

They should be visible on my desktop, but are not. The only way I can access them is to navigate through an open folder on my desktop to them (where they are clearly visible) and open them from there.

Its an intermittant problem but most annoying.

probably a folder view folder problem but i doubt it, you can specify to shown hidden files or not on your computer, so if the downloaded files have the hidden property enabled and you haven`t specified to show it files that might be it.

what operating system are you using?

The folder view option is to view all.

I'm using Windows XP Pro.

are you downloading the files from a website manually or using software to download them?
if you are using software what are you using to download them e.g. gozilla, kazaa, winMX?

I'm downloading manually File | Save As and then saving it to the desktop.

It seems to happen more with Zipped downloads?

That is really strange... Have you got multiple users on your machine, it may be saving the files to another user desktop...
