Yeah..I've been thinking about making a MMORPG, so what is the best script program for making games? And yeah, Im willing to use months or even years to acomplish this game...cause I got nothing to do and I got a quite nice idea :) ...

P.S. I dunno if this is the right site / forum for this question, but please tell me what you think =)) .

It depends exactly what you are going for. Do you know any sort of programming languages right now?

Most games today on the PC are written using C++.

Just to put this into perspective. Modern MMORPGs take teams of experienced designers and developers 3-5 years to make and have budgets in the millions of dollars. (to put this in perspective WoW had a budget of around $30-40 million dollars)
If you've never written a game before then you'll be starting from absolute basics - tetris would be an achievement.

You might want to look into Blitz3D or DarkBasic, they're fairly simple to work with.

But realistically, as a single person, with no experience the very best you could hope to build is an MORPG.

With like bad graphics and stuff...nothing special =)

Well yeah, ofc I need to start doing something little less complicated, but what program do you suggest? =)

I already suggested 2 :p

And graphics are not really the complicated part - networking for Massively Multiplayer gameplay is far more complex

...although for someone with no programming experience - everything is complicated.

Well, not maybe MMO, but about 1000 players maibe :P

If you can't pick out the 2 program names from a 5 line post then you're not cut out to be a programmer, you're certainly not going to manage to build an MOG by yourself.

You want to look at Microsoft's XNA, its fairly new and I thought it was easy compared to other game programming languages I've tried. It's designed for Windows and the Xbox 360, though you have to pay to develop for the Xbox. A good tutorial can be found here (http://www.riemers.net/).

I don't mean to rain on your parade here but as NancyJ pointed out, if you are completely new to programming, you are going to have a very hard time.

What I would recommend doing is starting with baby steps. Build a small single player game, like tetris or freecell or something like that. You'd be surprised just how complicated programs like that can be. No where near the level of an MMORPG but you still need to know the same programming concepts in order to write tetris or freecell.

Once you decide on a language you'd like to learn (try reading the sticky in this forum on learning to program) you can start going to through some very basic tutorials. You'll need to understand the building blocks like variables, functions, structs, classes, etc. in order to do anything really big.

Python strikes a pretty good balance between speed and easy of use for game programming. Don't worry too much about how hard it is in the big picture, just focus on whatever problem you're currently facing, and don't be afraid to tear it all down and start again when you start to find your footing. You might consider looking at the source code for a MUD to learn about concurrent networking, since there isn't really much else to a MUD, and look at some of the very samllest, crappiest open source games on freshmeat or whatever to get an idea of how graphics and input and all that work.
