How do I make a link for down loading a file?

Hi, how do I make a link that when clicked, downloads a pdf. file to the users machine? (After asking them, of course :D )

All what happens is it opens the pdf file using my acrobat reader. I want to be able to down load it to my HD with out bringing it up on the screen, kinda like when you download an exe.

you'd have to zip the file (using winzip or whatever) and then give instructions to unzip the file and open it.
