I would like a recommendation for win xp backup software. preferably free but I will consider commercial Software

I use acronis true image, it works great for me. I think it is about $50 dollars though.

I would also recommend Acronis True Image. It can be a bit fiddly to set up your schedule, but once set up, it works fine. I have a weekly full backup, and daily incremental backups

I use an external hard drive for my backups. My only quibble is that the software always uses the same name for the full backup image, thus overwriting the previous one. If I remember, change the name of the old full backup just before the next one is scheduled.
