How to take a snapshot of part of the screen

Windows used to allow you to draw a box around an area on the screen then you pressed ctrl/prtsc and voila, a snapshot of that area. With xp I can't do the same thing, all I can get is the entire desktop. Is there another way?

Press prtscr for the whole screen, what you can see and paste it into paint OR press alt + prtscr to screenshot just the window you are currently in.

Other than that, you'll just have to crop the images as far as I know
