does dell machines not have a bios or does it just hibernate automatically ?

They have a bios, you'll enter with either F1 or Del on boot.

Dell's use a hidden partition for their bios... If you have deleted it, then you will need to go to the Dell website for help in building a new one... It might also be mentioned that this may require a complete reinstall as by my experience Dell's prefer their BIOS be the first partition on the drive...

Allows for no need to install a BIOS chip, EEPROM... No need to pay royalties to a BIOS Company for use of their code... Save's space (very little) on mobo... But bottom line, basically, it saves a few bucks...
