Learn HTML and then CSS. That site uses a lot of graphics so you might want to download the GIMP and get confident with graphics. Last but not least, you're going to need some serverside programming and perhaps some clientside like Javascript, but that is easier said than done... It's a huge project and is not done in just one week, when you're a beginner. But why reinvent the wheel when there is a site like that already?

First of all I would like to thank you for your advice, I know basic HTML and I'm going to learn basic CSS. Thanks for the ideas like Gimp and JavaScript, I will definitely try to learn both.

Second of all the reason I would like to make a website like this is because i am a huge fan of all MMO but i find it hard to find good ones. That site really doesn't provide to much information, and if it does it takes a long time. I just want a simple easy to use site to help everyone.

Again thanks for your advice, but still i would like to hear everyones opinion.

Start with a concept. Decide what you want your page to look like and then either design it yourself, or find a template that you can modify and use to make the site look like you want.

You'll then need to slice it up into images and, using your HTML and CSS knowledge (which you will need plenty of for this), rebuild the site in semantic HTML for the web.

You'll also need to look into some hosting and a domain name so that people can look at your site. Later on you will definitely need to consider learning some php, but for now I'd recommend you find a design you like and build it and then get back to us so that we have something to base our opinions on.

For huge sites that are to be designed by people who have limited programming knowledge I recomend a good CMS. I'd look for a cheap host with a selection of auto installers that install the web system for you. servage.net is a good option for this.

Its great that you want to learn web deisgn but this site will have a forum, log in system, SQL DB transactions, password hashing, session handling, flood protection, pagination systems, all sorts of complicated scripts that could take years for a newbie.

With a good CMS all this is done of you and you can just install log in and update.

If you are sure that you are going to implement this yourself then be prepared for a few years to learn all the ins and outs of web design. I would probably suggest starting with a smaller site with out all the dynamic content to start with.

Do start off small, if you've never coded before and move straight onto PHP and databases + the design, you might find yourself put off by the difficulties you will probably meet. As stated earlier in this thread, forget the dynamic content in the beginning and aim for HTML and CSS. When you know that, you can combine it with PHP, because you need a solid grip of HTML before learning PHP (well that's the smartest anyway).

CMS means Content Managment System. Basically it allows you to manage content through GUI rather than coding.

heres a CMS that would be great for gaming related sites

Hey if you need some help with finding more games to put on there, check out this site. http://play-free-online-games.com/games/games_rpg.html I've had it in favorites forever, and it should help you find some new games to check out, and add to your site once you get it up.

If you are expecting this to be a "great" game with your limited knowledge, then good luck.
