Is there a way to identify from an ASP page the visitor's network username and their computer name? We tried using server variable AUTH_USER and it returns nothing. Can someone please point us in the right direction?

If it's outside your domain, no.
That information is not passed in the TCP/IP stack, unless strictly specified.

OK, this is on an intranet, so it's all on the same domain.
Is AUTH_USER the right way to go and if so, what are some things that might keep it from returning anything?

Do you have static IPs or are you on DHCP?
If you are on static, then use Request.ServerVariables("REMOTE_HOST"). Then just use your Static IP Tables to do the host lookup.
If you are on DHCP, then you need to delve into Authentication Methods.Try turning off Anonymous Access to your website and use either BASIC, DIGEST, or INTEGRATED WINDOWS accounts. That will return the information you are looking for.
