ok, so this is what happened...i was just sitting there uploading some files to my server through dreamweaver, then i left to take a shower. i came back and the operation was done...then i tried deleting something...and it wouldn't delete! so i looked at the properties...and bam, its read only (well there's my problem).

so i went to my documents > unchecked the read-only thing > and it began updating the sub files and folders...
so i thought my problem ended there but to my amazement, nope. no matter how many times i did it it came back. what happened? i can't delete anything at all! i am totally screwed! i need help...
thanks in advance!

Far fetched but is dreamweaver still open? Dreamweaver sometimes locks files for write access. Have you tried restarting?

^^
Windows does not make file readonly, even if they are read only you always should get a dialog when u move 'm or delete 'm.

Additionally it is a square and not a check because it means only some of the files are read only not all of them. Even if a file is read only, Windows will still let you deleted as said above. If you are getting access denied errors when trying to delete stuff, that has to do security permissions.

@aerospace: yeah, i tried that. it just locked everything in my documents...no warnings no nothing.
@Jeroentje: eh...if i did, my computer is acting for itself. its evolving (we are all going to die *panic* :D)
@oracleguy: nope...every file is readonly. i can't edit or delete anything.

Just right clicked on one of my folders and the read only checkbox is checked as well though I am able to delete, move, or rename files. Okay try this
Right click on the folder > Go to properties > Click the Security Tab > Click on your user name > Check the permissions on the bottom. Do any of them have a check under deny? If so go to Edit and you should be able to change them from deny to allow. Keep in mind that you need to be an administrator on the computer to do this.
Just noticed you don't have that tab on your screenshot. Are you an administrator of the computer? Did you recently reformat, keeping your files?

yeah i don't have that tab...i'm on my mommy's computer and she won't let me have admin....LOL just kidding, i'm running xp home edition. i don't think that it has that.
IT TURNS OUT THAT the reason i wasn't able to delete the files is because dreamweaver was using them...i restarted, saw the read-only thing...freaked out. restarted again did a bunch of stuff, but I NEVER TRIED TO DELETE ANYTHING again! so umm...problem solved. i can do everything with my files now...it was just a coincidence that i never noticed that thing was checked. CURSES! Windows(<3) has tricked me into being an idiot once more! in some strange way you helped my aerospace...so, rep++ for your time :).
