insert drop down box into a table?

Hi, on my website, when a user registers they select their gender using a drop down box, how will i insert a drop down into a table, what will i use, varchar, char etc. Any one have any ideas.

If there is only two options available. e.g. male and female then i suggest using a boolen flag in your table that way you can minimise the capacity of your data.
