CGI for membership sites

I have a membership site that uses 2checkout.com to handle all of my credit card processing. I need a script that automatically updates the .htaccess and .ht password files after they sign up. Does anyone know of a place where I could find something like this? For free?

Why don't you just use a MySQL database to store the info, instead?
