I've recently been informed by GoDaddy that a .uk domain which registered with them two years ago was subject to special renewal conditions which stipulate that the domain needs to be renewed before the chronological deadline (i.e. the same day of the same month, two years later).
The .UK registry requires that all domains be renewed before the 20th day of the month prior to the month the domain expires in
Now, this is news to me. I've registered other .uk domains with GD and don't recall ever encountering this condition, despite being someone who typically tends to renew my domains in the week leading up to the expiration date.
I've contacted GD, who pointed me back to their Domain Registration Agreement (twice), which makes no mention of any special deadlines for .uk TLDs. Similarly, I've trawled the Nominet site (registry for .uk TLD) and came up equally empty-handed, finding no mention of these special conditions.
I emailed Nominet for clarification yesterday in the hope that they can shed some light by confirming or denying, or at least, pointing in the right direction to find the info on their site concerning any special deadline arrangements for renewing .uk tlds.
Does any of this sound familiar?
Is anyone here able to confirm the existence of this rule?
As said, I've had .uk domains with GD for years and don't recall ever being required to meet a 'pre'-deadline for renewing them.
It all sounds a bit iffy to me.
Tia for any info.
