Hello,

I am looking to hire someone to integrate the following into a website.

The project is for a repair shop that would like to offer customers a way to see if their machine have been repaired or when it is slated to be completed.

This would need a backend that the repair people can update in the store. Ideally the backend would tie into the store's point of sale software or internal database so that workers do not have to duplicate the entries into the stores computer and a separate online database.

This project would not begin until August 2007, although planning is beginning now for the project.

If you are interested please contact me at dumpitonz at gmail dot com.

Thanks

This is part of the planning process. I am open to hearing suggestions for the backend. We have not yet decided on a POS.

Most POS have their own database ... e.g MyOB uses a crappy access backend, others use SQLserver or flatfiles or proprietary format (usually in binary) flatfiles.

Anything that has an SQL backend or at least has a decent API for connecting to their datasource is a good idea since it will make custom integration possible without having to hack away at anything.

Since you currently seem to have nothing you could in theory create the whole thing in your language of choice, but that depends what else you want to do with your data, do you want to export it to other accounting packages for reconciliation etc or do you want it to do that itself ?

I think you need to start off with a feature list.

+ how big is this application likely to be?, multi-user, multi-store (centralized server) stock control? ... really make a list :)

Thanks,

I will talk with the client and prepare a list. We have talked about using SQL or MySQL, but I will try to find out some more features.

I might be interested... depends on how complicated this will turn out to be and exactly what features it would require.
