View Full Version : Problem with links (URLS) in swf
Hi, sorry I'm a complete newbie.
I'm having problems with a swf of mine. Apparently (I don't know as I don't have Firefox and don't want to download it as I've got limited hard drive space) my links in my swf file don't work in Firefox. In particular under the "works" section then under "web" then "sounds" & "septembers" on those pages both the launch website links don't work but they do in IE. And it's the exact same actionscript code on all the pages and all the others work fine on both browsers.
Here's my website where the swf is: http://www.superkooge.com/
Anyone know how I can fix this? Or know if this is a common problem?
Cheers!

I think it may be Adobe's flash detection script. I recommend SWFObject (http://blog.deconcept.com/swfobject/) instead.

Thanks for your suggestion. I think we tried this first time and it worked but it had trouble with the full screen resize we wanted. As we wanted the content of the swf to overflow the canvas not resize to fullscreen.
I still seem to be having problems with it when I use the swfobject...
1) the links in the "web" section (launch website links) don't work at all, Firefox says "Firefox is unable to open popup" (or something like that)
2) the positioning of the swf (or div maybe?). I can't seem to get it into the top left corner, even with putting in some extra css to help.
Anyone have any suggestions? I'm desperate. Cheers! :)
Here is the link to the unpoisitioned swf: http://www.superkooge.com/index2.html
Can anyone help?

They are being blocked by Firefox's built in popup blocker. What is the actionscript you are using for those links?

I think it's just a simple: getURL("http://www.actionscript.org", "_blank"); on the button. I don't have the file on me tho so can't be sure. Funny thing is, all the other links work but 2 of them. Which is very odd. But yes, I think the popup blocker was an issue but this is a seperate issue again. HELP!

Well when I clicked those links the popup blocker alerted me that it blocked a popup. After disabling my popup blocker on Firefox 2.0.0.4 all of the links worked fine for me.
Ah thanks for that! Very helpful. I may just need to change my preferences. Thanks again :)
