link fade

I'm working on a webpage but i want to make it look interesting. I'm trying to make something where when the user puts their mouse over a link, it will fade from the original color of blue to red. Then when they take their mouse off of the link it will return to blue. I imagine this is a VERY simple thing but i have just started experimenting with java in the last month. My friend told me about something, but it didn't work in netscape so i'm just all around confused. If you can help me out, please let me know. THANKS!
