ICQ creation

I was wondering if it was possible to create my own ICQ program using a database like mysql to store buddy lists, usersnames, passwords, that kind of stuff.

I do not want something as big as aim, yaho, or msn because i know fairly nothing about programming in c++, or java

i only know php, html, and mysql


are there any good tutorials for learning how to do this with a free software like c++?

It is certainly possible to do, you would need a server application that the clients would connect to for login and such. So it would really require the creation of two applications. You'd have to learn how to use sockets with C++ to communicate with the other program.

I'd suggest messing around with some tutorials on sockets and if you can just make a simple C++ program that will let you type stuff and have it appear on another computer, that'd give you the basis for what you would need.

You can develop C++ in Visual Studio, there are other IDEs out there as well.
