Seems that my old and beloved Intellimouse has gone crazy, so I decided to buy a new one. The dilemma is between Microsoft Wheelmouse optical and Logitech Wheelmouse optical. Both have a similar price (about 23 €), so I want to know wich one has better response in tracking, precision, compatibility, resources used, ...
Can you give me your oppinions about these two models please?
Seen some reviews, but I really can't decide. Never used an optical mice and I wonder they're slower, don't work well if you move too quickly, etc...
And yes, I suppose that Microsoft Intellimouse Optical / Intellimouse Explorer seem to be better, but I find them too expensive for a mouse.

My advice:
Don't buy an optical mouse! ;)
Just my personal opinion - but I haven't found an optical mouse that has as anywhere near as good a response as a cheap $5- $7 ball mouse with 520 dpi. Yeah, you have to clean them a lot if you are into gaming, but they just work better, at least for me.
If you're not into gaming, then it doesn't really matter what you buy...
P.S. that "has just gone crazy" statement might haunt you if you ARE a gamer - that's what turned me off to optical mice in the first place. I'd buy one, and 3 or 4 days later (after saying "wow, this mouse is cool"), in the middle of a clan match while fighting with the only guy left on the opposing team (after killing the rest with a bit of help), this would rarely, but too often happen at the worst possible time:
My mouse would freak out... and all of a sudden my online character is either spinning around in circles, or I'm unable to fire a weapon. Not cool at all. I have about 5 optical mice gathering dust (on top) if you're interested in purchasing any of them cheap. :) Right now, I'm using a mouse I purchased for $3 at a local computer store... and it totally rocks!
Now, I have heard great things about some of the optical mice that I own from other gamers - but they usually lose to me in game types that require real precision aiming (like Quake III or UT /UT2003 instagib). I just think if that's the kind of action you're looking for, it's much easier to master the "physical" feel of a ball mouse... if you clean it a LOT!

I have 3 Microsoft Itillimouse opticals that work great and one logitech optical. And I've never had the "gone crazy" problem and I play lots of games. Usually that problem is caused because the mouse is on a too repeditive surface.

Hmm, I guess you don't wrist flick! :)
I get called a bot because of that - and I don't know about anyone else, but I can't wrist flick with an optical... I've tried lots of surfaces. :D
Either of you up for a game of Q3 Instagib? :D

Oh well, the "mad mouse" it's a ball one; it acts randomly, as if I was pressing the buttons; it's very strange. In essence I want to replace it with another similar scroll mouse, and I was wondering if an optical mouse it is worth it or still is better a tradidional and cheaper one and continue cleaning the ball. I'm not a gamer, but expect a fast response from the pointer

My only problem with my optical mouse can be summarized in one equation...
Cordless Optical Mouse + Many Endless Hours of Online Gaming = Multiple AA Battery Changouts... :(
But I love my cordless optical... :)

I have the newest MS optical mouse, whatever it is, and have no problems. I play ut2k3 IG all the time and my mouse works great. I agree with the sage45 equation but its worth it.

I have the cream/silver intellimouse explorer, it's the best mouse I've used.
Don't much like anything Logitech make tbh, both their mice and keyboards are made of nasty cheap plastic.

Thanks for your opinions. After all, seems that Microsoft it's the best alternative. Unfortunately, the decition will have to wait, as it seems that the mouse is "free from mental derangement" :) and that's not a good notice, because it means that the PS/2 port is damaged :(

So... anyone want to test your expensive optical mouse against my $3.50 ball mouse from http://www.ditcorp.com/Itemdesc.asp?CartId=12075635FZ-ACCWARE-YVW43&ic=MSEDTGH2002&tpc= in a game of Q3 or UT 2K3 ? :D
I think they have increased the price to about $7.00 though - probably because I bought 5 of them and mentioned how good they were, lol!.
