ok,
1) I want to write programs and all, all i know is HTML and some Javascript.... What should i move on to next? Another thing lol is, what is a compiler? I have heard about this everywere i read. I want to write programs like RPG's and MMORPG's later on etc.... Seeing that i am only in High school still and i have lack of money i need free site etc... Also, for some reason my web browser wont open up my saved .html's from notepad. Is there a deal were i can write my rpogram and then it shows me what it will look like, because of my comp. I know i'm not doing anything wrong because i write them at school all the time and they work there. I have a Windows XP, Hughes net (satalite) for the internet, and about 133Gb left of memory so i can download stuff if needed. Well hope you can help...

if you want to write games, C++ is always a good decision. I'm note sure if you should just learn C first seeing as I never did, and I didn't have too many problems. Once you're more advanced you can start working with DirectX and programming 3D games.

To answer your question, a compiler basically translates the code you use to write programs, into machine code...words that the computer can read, which are very complex...110101010110101 that kinda **** :D ...it pretty much makes it easier for you so you don't have to learn that binary code, so all it does is translate your code into machine (binary) code. If you're going to program, you're gonna have to get a compiler. There are free ones...I think...I wouldn't know. I have a Borland C++ compiler which is fine for me.

Microsoft puts out Visual C++ Express which is free. GCC is another free compiler as well.
