View Full Version : please test this page

Hi, I am having issues with a scrollbar in flash, well I am not but my Sister (who this site is for) can not always see the scrollbar on the page (sometimes displays other times not) ... can anyone please test and tell me a) if they see a scrollbar & b) if not what they see and what difference refreshing the page makes.... its a biggish page so dial-ups may have to wait a while, but slower connections I am more interested in to know if thats a factor
please don't submit the form... the backend is still in progress
It shows up fine in Opera 9.20. :)

Worked ok in FF2 for me, but not in IE7. I could see the scroll bar but there was no thumbnail or arrows on it to actually scroll nor did clicking the scroll bar work.

aha, thanks for that everyone... looks like IE7 is the culprit... I have been testing in IE6 but not 7 :( david_kw , if you go back to the same part of the page (but without using refresh) does it work the second time you visit the page?

Ya... worked in FF2

Firefox - works as expected
Opera - works as expected
IE6 - I got no scrollbar, refreshing didn't help. Also, the contact form is partially visible on top of the bottom menu

Hmm I'm not sure if I did what you asked, but clicking around it eventually started working. I clicked on the "Colours" icon, then the Gemstone Finder and that wasn't working either. Then I clicked back to the Diamond Finder and it was working. Then back to the Gemstone Finder and it was working now. After that it seems to always work when I click between them.
Sorry but I don't know enough about Flash to be able to speculate what the problem might be.

I just tested it in IE6 and the same thing happened. It didn't work for either "finder" page the first time but when I navigated back it worked. Same symptoms in as IE7. If I refresh it goes back to broken.

I'm not sure if I saw a scrollbar. This is what I saw

Oh well, a flash website… Don’t get me started…
Well, it “works” in Safari, Fx2, Netscape 7.1, iCab, and Camino. It doesn’t work for me, though, as I have to wait forever until it’s loaded and I don’t see any indication that waiting will help (no loading movie) - and I have a pretty good cable connection!
And that’s probably what you need to do, Spookster: wait. I had the same screen but it will evenutally look like something useful if you wait a while (see that your Fx is saying "transferring data"?).
Why don’t you use HTML? Is it just because your sister wants those motion effects?

cool thanks all , great feedback ... I think I have it fixed now but what a pain in the butt that was ... hours wasted... it should now always show a scrollbar ... at least I hope so :(, gonna make a post somewhere about the workaround to MM/ScrollPane bugs. (if thats not the case for you please tell me !!)
VIP, I knew someone was gonna pipe up about using flash, to be honest I did not think you were a likely customer anyway ;) though if you lived in Australia (where the server is purposely located for the local audience) you would probably be quite impressed with the speed .. the site is far from finished (hence the testing), there will be a complete HTML version for those who prefer it + lots of direct links to flash and html pages for bookmarks etc.
You have to get into the head of the customer base to understand why flash is an option.. yes, as is, you could do (and I will be doing) virtually the same with HTML, but some people like scrolly things, some don't, I personally am ambivalent , here we will be offering both (as with another jewelley site here (http://www.luxus.com.au/) << & yes I know html is borked ;))
regardless thanks for the feedback it has been invaluable.
