I am going to order a book off amazon on javascript. I also like to learn along with it xml, dhtml, etc., and I am a beginner. Any good books you web experts recommend?

Is Web Standards Programmer's Reference : HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Perl, Python, and PHP (Paperback) good?

Please observe some patience; these forums are used by people all over the world in vastly different timezones; give them an opportunity to respond in their own time--which may easily take up to a day or more.

Mr. Schafer's "Web Standards" reference seems to be none of those; albeit a hefty book, unless Mr. Schafer is an absolute genius I can't see one author cover so many and so diverse subjects to a depth that this book can be called a reference.

There are books covering just one of those subjects that easily exceed the page number; the number of books covering width and breath of CSS alone could fill an entire shelf.

Please tell us exactly what you want to learn more about (don't pile on the subjects: focus on a few), and how much you already know.
