i have a dell demension 3000 and i want to reformat it i have no cd for xp or anything else
I have 2.8ghz p4
512 ram
128 geforce fx 5500
and 80 gb hard drive

Why don't you have the cd? What operating system is currently on it? Maybe you can using linux on the system. Won't be able to game with it then again from the specs it doesn't sound like a gaming system.

well i run windows xp home edition i don't want liniux i want to reformat and reinstall my windows i have no cd and when i called dell they went all around but reformatting so like i just need some step bye step but when i look things up on google none work please help me

Reformatting is easy but if you dont have your windows disks then you when you have reformatted you'll have a very nice desk ornament.
The bottom line is, if you dont have your windows disks you cant install windows.

i bought my dell after 2004 and for some reason when i hit ctr+f11 it does not open the restore program like it should i when i try to make windows cd with there program it does not work

because the computer randomly frezes and has horrible start up hangs and the freezes are like every five mins and like i still have mouse control and can open folders just no programs my warranty runs out in may so i figured y not reformat i have not done it for about three years now anyways and i think prolly there is some corrupt stuff on it

If its still under warrenty - get it fixed professionally - thats the point of a warrenty

i don't want to mess with sending it in and i have modifyed it a bit so i don't know if its still even ligit
And a yeah linux where could i get it and do basic programs like aim or trillion or gaim work on it and can i have xp and linux on a computer

If you have your license key(typically attached to the computer on the back or side) then just borrow an XP disc from someone else and make a copy, or install with yours. As long as you use your license key, theres no problems.

ok would ur license key also be called a product key
should it look like xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx
and back to my linux where can i get the best how to and wuts the best linux out there
i have to get this right first time my mom would raise holy hell
can i download a cd of like utorrent

That would be the product key....and as for linux, I would look up information on Ubuntu. In my experience it has been the most friendly for new linux users. It also has great community support and guides for almost everything. Here are a few links for Ubuntu:
