um...photoshop and a little of video editing...but mostly basic programming in java not so much with games, surfing and ms word will be probably be, but would like also to consider going to vista but aero and effects are not so important to me

Well I'd completely discount the last one - 512MB RAM isnt going to be enough for PS or video editing.
30 day free trial of XP home seems like the os isnt included in the price. Unless you're bothered about the built-in web cam, I'd say go for the first one, faster processor, bigger HD - for video editing you'll need the extra GBs, price includes OS.
If those prices are mexican pesos - they're all incredibly expensive for what you're getting.

This is the specs of my laptop - cost around £450

Latitude D520
- Intel Celeron M 430 (1.73GHz - - Removable)
24X CD-RW/DVD Combo Drive
80GB SATA (5, 400rpm) Hard Drive
65W AC Adapter
Windows® XP Professional SP2
Dell Wireless 1490 802.11a/g Mini Card (54Mbps) - -
Uk/Irish - Internal Keyboard D520
6 Cell 56WHr LI-ION Primary Battery
Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 802.11a/g Mini (54Mbps)
1.0GB,533MHz DDR2 SDRAM Memory (2x512MB)
Internal 56K Modem Notebook - UK
Latitude D520 15.0 XGA LCD Screen
Genuine Windows® XP Professional SP2 -

I know its not the hotest laptop out there but its pretty decent, it runs Photoshop CS2 at a push and the Sims 2 Life Stories (special laptop edition of Sims 2) it does what I need - which is mostly programming. I guess my point is that those you've listed are only marginally better than mine - bear in mind that many programs dont fully utilise both cores, so they would only a little faster than my laptop at some stuff. But the price is 5 times what I paid for mine

one more question...which is more durable? asus or msi?

Well I have to repair a lot of laptops and I can honestly say that I do not see many Asus or MSI (or BenQ) returns ... I do see a lot of lower-end dells,HP/Compaq's & Toshiba's and some Acer's ... but of course there are more of those about... and its usually the lower-end models.

I doubt you will go far wrong with either.

(PS I have an Acer 5004WMLI which would be perfect apart from the Via graphics which was a stupid choice for a linux user ~... and on that subject, if you are thinking of linux... then an Nvidia based system will cause you less heartache in the long run)
