View Full Version : Making the switch to ASP.net

I have a client who has a site completely built in ASP. His current developer is leaving for an undetermined amount of time and he has asked me to make minor changes and updates while his current developer is gone.

My main skill is in PHP, but I know C++, and Java very well also. My question is if I will be able to learn ASP.Net quickly because of my knowledge of these other languages? Is ASP.Net Similar to PHP? Any insight/advice is greatly appreciated.

No, it's really nothing at all like PHP.

I can't think of much to compare it to. I guess I'd say it's closer to J2EE than anything else, with server controls being like java beans, but it's a pretty unique framework, at least in my experience. It is an entire framework, and if you code to standards using server controls and code behind pages (that link up there explains why you should do this and not just embed code in the pages themselves) it REALLY doesn't look or act anything like PHP.
