I am looking for an ISP - in Britain.
Does anyone recommend one? I need to be able to use SSH and Torrents.

I've been with BT since 2004. They've been fairly reliable with only one or two outages in the last three years. BT themselves are reliable, but I've got a dodgy router (need to replace it sometime) and I live *miles* away from the local exchange, so it means that my internet connection isn't that reliable at times.
I'm on a 1mb connection (1024/256) with a 40gb limit I think...for £25 a month it's not the cheapest but it works. Some ISPs in the UK just resell BT lines anyway, so I thought I might as well get the service straight from the horses mouth.

We were with Telewest for years until Virgin Media took over - have to say that the quality of service has dropped dramatically since then. Our 10Mbps Cable was incredibly slow a couple of months after the take over though it seems to have stabalised now, we did have an outage at the weekend for a couple of hours though.
Too much virgin money is going on young, hip, sexy marketting and not enough of quality of service - particularly with the TV. I may be young but I'm neither hip nor sexy, I want my telewest back :(

I can highly recommend Entanet Internet. Fantastic stuff from them.
I was with tiscali for 2 years, suffering slow speeds, high pings, blocked ports etc and I wasn't even on FUP. The final point came when they wouldnt even allow online games, MSN, email via outlook! Everything was blocked at peak times for everybody on a certain platform (IPSTREAM). I just got my MAC code and joined www.vivaciti.com and havent looked back.
Feels like moving from dial-up to broadband all over again :D
