I have WinXP in a 2gb NTFS partition. I have SuSE 8.0 on a 2gb ReiserFS partition. I have a 200mb swap partition, a 16gb FAT32 partition for storing files, and a 10gb NTFS for Windows games and programs.

Works out pretty nicely.

As for choosing OS's, most distributions install Lilo for you, which is a very nice loader.

if you have twenty i would give win9x about 7(depends on how much you use it)
and the rest to linux. The loader i use is Grub and i use red hat 8 and i love it.
