That's my current SMF + Joomla bridged site, it's yet to be customized. I was wondering if it would be better to utilize open source things, such as Joomla/SMF, or would it be better to hire to create a custom script? I work a F/T job, I don't have many bills, so I'm able to pay for development, but would this be advisable? Or should I stick with the Open Source? Just customize it, maybe?

My site offers email right now, and has made $27 and change this month, and it's the first month it has been up. I'm planning to add a video section, and radio streaming in the future. It's meant to be a bunch of integrated features, similar to Yahoo!, but without the millions they received back in 95'. I work on it on my own, and this much revenue, 10,000 uniques, and 50 members is extremely rare, but I'm really good at marketing, and so I am making 3X more than what my hosting bill costs me, and that's a plus in my book.

But my question is:

Should I invest in custom development? Or should I stick with Open Source / but customize my site more? Joomla has some great mods, I'd just like some opinions.

I'm willing to take on staff: For hire per job, or equal share in revenue, your choice.

Many people ask me what my site is about: It's about drawing traffic to my site, supplying them with features that they will love, and to keep them coming back. That's what it's about. Creating backlinks ;)

So... you installed a generic Joomla CMS that doesn't have any content and really has no point to its existence. Um... nice job I guess?

I give the site an F-

So if that's your question...why is it in the site reviews forum?

Also, a really good marketer (as you paint yourself) wouldn't hit so wide of the mark when it comes to visual design and getting a halfway decent domain name.

No offence :)

I guess you don't know what a joomla/smf bridge is, and maybe I'm looking to hire designer's? I'm still earning adsense revenue everyday, so I couldn't care less about your opinion of my website. I came here to hire people, not get insulted by wannabe webmasters. My site offers email for users, not many other sites offer that, that's usually reserved for companies. My site looked better before the bridge, but Joomla has alot of mods that I like, that's why I installed a bridge, or can you not comprehend my thread? I don't see you with a site, and so? Maybe the domain has meaning to me? I'm still receiving hits every minute, so why should I have to pay for a domain that would look good to you? I'm not here for your opinion, I'm here to pay to get my site a custom theme. Leave your useless pessimism at the "door."

No offence. :)

I think I'd rather ousource anyway, Gary. ;) No offence mwaha

Thank for hijacking my thread, jackass.

Look, if you don't want opinion, then don't post on a forum mate.

BTW if you'd like to come and call me a jackass to my face - call me up -my number is on my site- come meet me - I'd be more than happy to take my jacket off and 'discuss' it with you ;)

And, if I may chime in to not make it better (LOL), if you don’t want any opinion but pay someone to do work, why are you specifically posting in the site reviews forum and not in the work offers forum?
And if you can’t take (legitimate) critique then you’re certainly wrong here. You didn’t start out very good and you’re not making it any better by insulting established members.

crud3w4re:

Rather than getting your knickers in a knot, why not just post a proper work offer in our Paid offers and requests (http://www.codingforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=36) forum? Better read that forum's rules first though before posting your offer. Your comment about equal share in revenue is against that forum's rules.

And as others have said, no need to insult the members here. That won't win you any friends.

Maybe the domain has meaning to me?

Yeah, but does it have meaning for your users? Can they remember it? That's a distinction of a good marketing ploy -- making your name memorable.
