While I DO KNOW THAT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PROTECT ANYTHING THAT GOES CLIENT"S WAY, I put together some code that will hopefully deter the ignorant without affecting the site functionality (once debugged that is).
I hope there are some brave souls around here who can help me test it. The code you are after is located at:
http://www.klproductions.com/wdcomponents.html
from there use the link "Sequential Content Presentation".

Once again, I'm not challenging you to get the code, but asking you for debugging help. I have absolute confidence in ability of the forum members to bypass any prottection.

What is it that I'm supposed to (not) get? Netscape 4.80 displays your page badly and gives me the source immediately.

You mean that code?

Time to understand the message: 2 minutes.
Time to get the code: 5 secs ;)

Jalarie, time to update.
Borg, did you read my post, it was not the challenge to get code.
Thanks anyways. Bugs found. stand by.

it was not the challenge to get code

Yes I know.... Sorry, couldn't resist it :D

The fact, however is that your request was a bit confusing. Why talk about the protected code if you were only asking people to test the page and report problems?

btw, I always get the "ContentLibrary not defined" error message; then I press refresh and all works

Would you like to continue reading the Script specifications?

WTF? What is that for?

Borg, I was talking about the logging not protection. I needed some traffic to see how the logging feature works.
The js error you mentioned is IE only and I'm working on it. Thanks.

Storm, the popup is a book marking feature. Allows visitors to go to the last page they were on, if they chose "Yes".

Nice website. It's working fine in my browser, though...I don't see where the problem is.;)

Not sure what you want us to do..I went to the site and got a pop-up. Is that the deterrent?

Just a comment about rollover images on your site. You should preload them, if i went to a rollover image it would flash for aq split second as it tried to get the new image...

you prob. already know how to preload images, but here is the script anyway..

<head>
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
<!-- Begin Menu Preload
image6 = new Image();
image6.src = "Bucks_main_dwn1.gif";
image7 = new Image();
image7.src = "Bucks_main_dwn2.gif";
// End menu Preload -->
</SCRIPT>
</head>

<A HREF="bc2.html" onmouseover="image6.src='Bucks_main_dwn1.gif';" onmouseout="image6.src='Bucks_main_up1.gif';"><img name="image6" src="Bucks_main_up1.gif" width="20" height="29" alt="" border="0"></A>

I don't see the point of the post either... use server-side scripting, and don't have static HTML in your pages (except menus or what not). Problem solved.

Anyone trying to steal dynamic database-generated content by pilfering HTML source code and updating pages in that manner has my utmost pity... since it would be a never-ending (and ultimately unsuccessful) task.

well, i've gone to the site (it's cute, i like it:)) and i think i got ur code (but u're not even asking that...). but I just went for the sake of going, i have no idea what u're trying to say. exactly what is this post about? whatever it is it's not about code protection right? :confused:

I think Vladdy is trying to come up with a way to please clients who want to protect their source, but do it in a way that doesn't compromise the usefulness and usability of the site, like a no--right-click script or scrambled source, would.

Vladdy, we're supposed to be helping to debug, but which code is it exactly, that we're debugging? There's a bunch of code here ( i like the style switcher, by the way ), and I didn't immediately see anything that would be considered at deterrent.

Guys,

Thanks for responses and suggestions.
As the title said it is not a "protection" feature but "logging". I was debugging the database logging of attempts to save the code locally and execute it from the local drive. The design attempt was to make it "transparent" to the visitors.

CitznFish,
Thanks for pointing out the 'blink' when going over rollover images for the first time, I'm aware of it. The rollover is dove using css hover style and images are the background of anchor elements. This allows for easy style switching. While preloading code is still doable with this scenario it is not high on my priority list.
