I went to write some files to a CD last night and the CD player wouldn’t work.
I just used this same drive to write files to a CD only a week ago. No new hardware or software has been loaded. I’m not sure if Windows has updated itself in any way.
I was able to play an audio CD, so the hardware seems fine. I cannot write.
I even tried several different CD media, since I have some colored Memorex CDs, but that made no difference.
I tried copying files over the network to my laptop and writing files from that computer, only to get the same error. On both computers I get an error message about not being allowed (Drive:\ is not accessible. Incorrect function. ). The computers recognize the drive, but not the CD in the drive. Microsoft says this happens if you have Roxio CD burner on your system. I do not. Haven't loaded any new stuff. ?????
My husband was able to write a CD from his computer, but a week or so ago his DVD player just stopped working. We’re thinking these things may be related.
Has anyone else enountered this problem? It’s very recent, maybe an update gone wrong?
Just a thought... I re-installed my iRiver software, which is basically Windows Media Player 10. Not sure if that was before or after the last successful CD burn. That doesn't explain the laptop or DVD writer on the other computers, though. I also got a message to upgrade Windows Media player last night, which I did do on my desktop computer but not the laptop. I didn't have time to test it...
