best type of chat

Now, this could be both php and javascript. What I want is a chat that dynamically updates (could be ajax too i guess :) ) all i need is the part that grabs from the server and displays it, what i have now isnt working for me (taking too many resources) what it is is a query taking the msgs, storing in a page to check for new msgs, it checks and compares if its different it displays it using javascript to do it dynamically so you dont get the white flash

this way isnt very good and is using a lot of my cpu, whats the best way and if so do you have one ready or a way to show to what direction to go (learning ajax is not a real option....)

You really just need to search with a search engine. You will get hundreds of examples. In fact there's one the snippet forum I believe. You're going to have to learn a little ajax at least to do that too, if you aren't using flash or java.

reason why my chat is how it is because i couldnt find a chat that suited my needs for quiet awhile from search engines
