SORRY PLZ MOVE TO COMPUTER DISCUSSIONS!
Boot it up holding Apple+S. That launches it into Single User mode, which is just a command prompt with root. From there, you should be able to su username and then hit passwd.

The Unix su (substitute user) command is used to assume the login shell of another user without logging out. It is commonly used to change to root user permissions for administrative work without logging off and back on.

so will this enable me to change the password? or view it?
The passwd command changes the password.

You shouldn't need to su into the username to change the password. If you boot into root then at the command prompt just type passwd <username>

typed
passwd rafiki ******* (where * = my pass)

so then i tried
su rafiki
passwd ********
that didnt work either any ideas on what im doing wrong?
Just hit `passwd rafiki` (or whatever), and execute that statement. Then it will prompt you to change your password.
