I have just downloaded visual studio but its in .img format. I have read the website and it says i need some sort of overpriced extraction tool. Does anyone know of a free one? or does anyone have any tips of working around this?

Thanks.

You can mount .img files using programs such as nero iirc. .img is literally an "image" file. I think daemon tools can do .img format as well. There definitely is free software to extract the contents of that file type. Typically you mount the file though and make it act as a CD/DVD virtually on your system.

There are freeware ISO burning/extraction tools available as I have found them myself.

You can do a web search for "freeware ISO disc image tool" or any variant of that search string. Make sure that you keep the freeware, ISO, and image words in any string format, otherwise you'll get results for the International Organization for Standardization(ISO).

I used Nero for my ISO disc image files.

If you have XP do a Microsoft search on their web site for ISO disc image tools as it is a good possibility that they have their own branding of ISO Image burning tools and may be free for "Genuine" Windows users.
