We recently switched over from DSL to Cable. Our DSL was too slow because we are too far from the Central Office (CO). When we first got cable it was amazing - download speeds like we had never seen before. Then after a few days, the cable would flake out. Comcast sent out a technician two days later who replaced some of the cable. That worked for a few days but then we were back to the same problem - worked great for a few hours then the modem would be unable to find the signal; we would unplug the modem, power it back up, and it would work.

Then we happened upon the solution - another tech came out and replaced the cable all the way to the pole. Now we get reliable high speed internet over cable day in and day out. Strangely, the tech support people on the phone kept trying to convince us that the modem was bad, but the tech who replaced the long cable stretch determined that there was water in the line that was causing the connection to cycle in and out.

So if you're having this problem, it's worth the effort to get them to replace as much of the cable as possible.

I used to work for radioshack, and people would always criticize me for trying to sell gold series and quad shield cable for outdoors. I know it's expensive, but it just won't corrode.

I Think u where dealing with 2 sides here. The helpdesk / support and a technician who really found the problem. I often help out on threads related to cable modems, and many people complain about speed / fallouts etc etc and often the helpdesk tells the people "Sorry we can't help you cause u are using Router X which is not supported" .. I tend to help 'm out and often things can be solved at home without contacting the ISP. However changing ground-cable is'nt always a sollution, that it helped your company out won't guarantee this will help for anyone else :)
