If you have Winrar or Winzip you can password the archive so that no one can extract the files without having to submit a valid password. Is this what you're trying to do?

Yes. Winrar, and Winzip both offer Password protected features, to protect your Archive. Even tho it sounds great, ZIP is easily bruteforced, and winrar offers even more protection. I suggest using .rar format instead of .zip, since .rar offers even better compression then zip :)

Agreed, winrar is pretty good provided you give a good password:
t*h*i*s_i*s_1_*g*o*o*d_p*a*s*s*w*o*r*d*
Just be sure to remember the password, as it migth take decades before you can actually retrieve it with some sort of program.

A quick guide to never forgeting passwords for encrypted items:
I have an external harddrive that I keep everything I have encrypted on. I keep it in cleartext in folders with a small file with a description of the item(what it was for, password, filename and such) This is extremly unsecure, but I keep it in a safe and only take it out to back something up or to retrive something that has been lost.
