Ajax request on a ssl?

Ok i am trying to set up an ajax.request for people to be able to import contacts (that works fine the import). But what i want to do is have the person submit there login info and send that info to a php page that would processes load there contacts and send them back. Im interested in the encryption between javascript and php if it is at all possible?

I see, well you could develop your own encryption key that would encode and decode the data on both ends, apart from that I dont think the AJAX technique to post data to the server works in SSL (it never has for me myself)
