Hello!

I'm sure I know how to do this, but I'm having one of those dumb moments where I just can't figure out how to do this...

I've got a scrolling flash gallery and you have to click on computer screens to then be shown some flash adverts from varying companies.

I want to be able to click the computer screens so that the external .swf's will open, but not in the current window, in a seperate window (because the external .swf's are of varying sizes)

I'd also like to be able to tell it where to open the new .swf's - something I have no clue how to do.

I've tried a number of combinations to actually open the external .swf's but nothings happening - do they actually have to be uploaded for it to work?

Well flash videos are actually .flvs which are shown through a swf, so if you just link to the page where there is no variable, nothing will happen

So what do I have to do? I'm no Flash expert and anything I did know has been long lost after having done none for about 3 years!

Calm down. If you aren't getting answers its likely due to you not knowing how to explain your problem correctly. These "external swf files", are you sure they are .swf format? How about posting a link to one of these external files.

The actual scrolling gallery can be found at http://www.thelock.co.uk/scroll.swf (http://www.thelock.co.uk/scroll.html)
(will need reducing in size as I haven't embedded it as yet)
The one that is uploaded is working on the original principle, which was to have the .swf's open within the scrolling .swf.

However, as you can see, this doesn't work too well. None of the buttons in the external .swf (VW ad) will work.

Therefore, I decided to try simply doing the same thing, but instead of the external .swf's loading in the current window, I just want them to open as an external web page link would open. (like my link above)

The code I used originally was:

[CODE]
on (release) {
_root.tint.gotoAndPlay("on");
_root.content_box.loadMovie("2.swf", 0);
}

But I obviously can't use this to make my scrolling .swf action an external .swf...as it requires the flash to be within the scroll.swf

I just want my other bits of flash to open outside of the main bit of flash...and if I'm attaching Action Script to a button, how do I go about this?

Just like JavaScript allows you to open pop up boxes outside of the current page and allowing you to specify the height and width of the box and whether there is a scroll bar/if the window is resizable...

All files are definitely .swf's apart from one file which is java, but that can be loaded from a html page.

Best way I can explain it.

If I understand right; you have a .swf file you want to be viewed in a blank window (new window) when the link is clicked. . . correct?

If this is the case, you need to be asking flash open an external link. You can link to the flash media and it should open just like an ordinary link. Simply link to the file and designate _blank as your target.

As of right now you are loading the movie into your existing page - _root.content_box.loadMovie("2.swf", 0); the ".load" action brings the file into your existing timeline.
Try simply linking to the file.
