help with a script!!!

i am currently making a text based game that is played in the browser.

i am struggling to make the rank script...

i have 15 rank names
e.g. beginner, starter)
i want it to be if possible php.
i was wondering if anyone could tell me how to do this.
i want the ranks to update with a experience bar..
when the experience bar hits 100% the player goes to the next rank.
and a player gets 1% every 30mins..

please help as this is the only thing holding me back on the game...

Without detailed knowledge of how you are storing player data along with other details, there's not much I could offer. What have you tried so far?

i am using

php, css, xml and js to make the game
to store the user details im using sql databases.
