Hi. I'm just curious if you can set a user name and password for a local folder on your computer and how you do it. I was curious if you could do it with .htaccess but it didn't seem to work when I tried.

Thanks for any help in advance.

I hate to just display this lame answer, but did you try this first?

No I searched stuff relative to .htaccess.

I'm not an expert at Windows security, so I wasn't sure
what you had searched for ... I think .htaccess pertains
more toward servers (Apache stuff?)

mlseim is correct. .htaccess is for apache servers. You will need some third party software program. I found this: http://www.download.com/Folder-Locker/3000-2092_4-10619169.html?tag=lst-0-1
Its free but it says its only been tested up to 3.6gb of data in a folder. It might work for more folders though. I'm curious though why don't you just make another account on the computer? This way only your folders will be available to you and not anyone else.

If you are running windows XP pro or windows 2003 (or presumably Vista) then the operating system has the functionality for password protecting folders built in.
