I've spent way too much time on this and it probably is a simple tweak, but I just don't know what the problem is.

Everything looks fine in FF, but in IE there is extra space thrown in between divs. Specifically, right above the header image (I have a small div above that of a solid color, but IE throws extra space between that div and the header image div). Also, to the right, between the boxes. I have two divs containing a checkbox pattern. The last spot I noticed it is in the footer right under the footer bar (the last div). IE is throwing some extra white space.

Any idea why it's doing this?

This is due to an Internet Explorer bug where if you donít set the font size to zero, that browser will ignore the height you specified. In any case, I fail to understand why you have a non‐breaking space character in each of the boxes thatís causing you an issue. Additionally, it doesnít make sense that you have a spacer element at the top when you could just put a top padding on the layout container element instead.

Also, your page contains errors (http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.carllerche.com%2Fprojects%2Fdjforums%2Ftemplate.html). &#133\; is not the correct character entity for the horizontal ellipsis character; it should be … (named), … (hexidecimal), or &#8230\; (decimal). The ďCommon MistakesĒ section of this page (http://lachy.id.au/log/2005/10/char-refs) explains why. Additionally, form elements require an action attribute; if you donít want or need the attribute, use something like a div element instead. Finally, all image element require an alt attribute, which provides text as an alternative when images cannot be displayed.

Note: The red slashes (\) above are to prevent the forum from parsing the character references as HTML; they arenít part of the code and should be removed.
