I was looking at stock photos on some websites. How do you know if you have permission to use them? Royalty-free, rights managed what is that?

You can find some sites that sell them, sometimes $1.00 each to use
anyway you want. Those are public domain and relatively cheap to use.
Any other site, email the site owner or webmaster and ask them. Many
times, they are OK with it.... it all depends on the images and what type
of business the website is.

if i buy an image or it is royalty-free does that mean I can use it on my site? I don't want to use any of the images for any other purposes.

The site you buy the image from will generally have a terms of use page. Just read that to see what you can and can't do with the image.
