very tricky placement...how could I do it?

Hey folks...

Before I spend the next two hours trying to get this to work, I need a plan. I have an image which rides halfway between the webpage main area and the sidebar background. The background is a gradient.

Is it a matter of having the background behind the balloon be pixel-dead on perfect with the gradient to maintain the illusion I'm going for? Do I need to slice the graphic, put half on the background, half on the main page? And I'm assuming I could run into big problems with different screen widths, etc. as well. How do you think I could make this happen?

That's the way I'd do it, maybe a tad finicky, but certainly doable.

You shouldn't really run into any problems with the background - as it's static anyway (as opposed to fixed).

The other alternative - would be to use a transparent PNG, and a bit of javascript (the javascript would be required assuming you want it to work in IE versions earlier than 7)

But you can avoid all that, by going for the method quoted above.
