AJAX issue in Internet Explorer 7

Does anyone know what would be causing this problem? We are using AJAX to process a logout script on our website. The script calls out to an external website. This works fine on IE6 but on IE7 we get a permission denied error.

Are there any good resources out there listing the issues with AJAX in IE7? Or is there any reason why we shouldn't be able to access an external server?

An external server? You mean a server that is in an outside domain. This is against the browser security rules.

With IE6 you could run this on your desktop's fil system and not on a server. IE7 changed the settings.

Huh? XMLHTTPRequest hasn't allowed out-of-domain access in ie6 without privilege enhancements or dropping of the security level for the internet zone since ie5.5w, I believe. At least not out of the box. I remember this biting me when I was developing my bookmarklets back in 2001.

And Mozilla, Opera, Safari never allowed it.
