Whats the best way to position stuff (regarding cross browser compatibility) using CSS?

Itís kind of hard to answer that without knowing what needs to be positioned; different effects require different manners of positioning.

Ive got a header tiled across the top of the page using

#header {
background-image : url(i/hdr.gif);
position : fixed;
top : 0;
margin : 0;
padding : 0;
width : 100%;
height : 82px;
z-index : 0;
}

and im trying to place a image on top of it using

#logo {
position : absolute;
left : 10px;
top : 0px;
z-index : 1;
}

and it really isnt working! :mad:

also how would i place a footer at the bottom of the page, I tried

#footer {
width : 100%;
height : 82px;
background-image : url(i/ftr.gif);
position : fixed;
left : 0;
bottom : 0;
}

but it keeps going to the top, if i do absolute it stays at the bottom but doesnt move when i scroll down the page! grrr

Hello ramo_phoenix,
There sure has been a lot of people wanting full height/footer at the bottom web pages lately! Must be a new trend.
I can show you what I've done, have a look at the code to see how to do it yourself.
my favorite (http://www.nopeople.com/CSS/full_height_columns/)
another one (http://www.nopeople.com/CSS/footer/)
