Hi,
Excuse me if this is the wrong fourm. I am guessing that I need some specialist server side language for what I want?
I want to start a specialist interest site for a musical instrument, where people can upload and view videos with sound - where on earth do I start ?
Any pointers in the right direction would be really appreciated.
Thanks.

Well you'll need a hosting package that offers lots of disk space and transfer per month.
As for the site, you'll need to use a database (e.g. MySQL, MsSQL) and a server side language (e.g. ASP or PHP) for starters.

Hi OracleGuy
Thanks for that.I figured I would need that, but I am inexperienced with all of that and don't know where to start, any further pointers ?
Cheers.

Well the best starting point would be figuring out which language you are going to use. What languages does your host support (if you already have one)? And do you have any prior programming experience in any other languages? Like if you've done C/C++ or Java before, PHP will be easier to learn but if you've done VB, ASP will be easier to pick up.

Hi oracleguy
Thanks again.
By the sounds of it I think this may have to remain in the realms of a nice idea..... I do have php and mysql support, can do websites with xhtml and css but have absolutely no experience of programming scripts, and little time to learn.
C'est la vie and thanks again for the input.

You could always hire a coder to do it for you. There are plenty of starving coders out there who work on contracts (although not all of them starving) and would probably be more then willing to help.
After all if the website booms you could see yourself in the same place as YouTube, rich and working for google.

Hi Aradon,
Thanks for your input, do you have any idea of the sorts of costs involved ?
Cheers.
