CSS Center

Ok first off I want to place an image in the center of a page, center both hoz and vert. I can get it center hoz using align in a div tag, but cant seem to work out how to center it vert.

2nd question, now I have used a div tag for the centering, my z-indexing no longer works within the div tag, but works fine in the span tag. Any ideas?

Its ok folks a change of plan decided just to put a % top margin instead, still looks ok..
