First, download and run Spybot Search & Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/). Next, download and run Ad-Aware (http://www.lavasoft.com/download_and_buy/product_comparison_chart.php) (there is a free download from that page). Finally, if you don't have anti-virus software on your PC, for heaven's sake, please get it! Between these three things, your PC should get clean and stay clean, and you shouldn't have these problems anymore.

If the spyware tools can't seem to get rid of all the programs and your system has been compromised badly, it wouldn't be the terrible idea to just back you data up and reload your OS.

I have to ask this. Did you run both Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware? It isn't enough just to install them. Most of the time, that will get rid of any spyware on your PC.

You might want to also peruse the Malware Removal section of this forum (http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php?http://forums.spywareinfo.com/) and try their suggestions. They are experts at getting this kind of stuff off your PC.

Finally, whether or not you reload your OS as oracleguy suggested, change passwords to anything you have to logon to access once you're sure that you've cleaned your system.

Well if you need a new CD, you can usually call whoever made your laptop (Dell, HP, IBM, etc.) and order a new CD for pretty cheap. The key is what is really important, which you said you still have. Just FYI.

Download HijackThis (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html) and post your log so that we can tell what spyware/adware/you-name-it is running. :)

You can also download a cd image for windows cds in the form of a torrent file, search at www.torrentz.com, if you have the cd key, this will work fine for replacing cds without having to pay for it. Microsoft only cares about your cd key anyway.

Yes, cd image is a cd.....only not on a physical disc. once you have obtained a cd image, you can check the size of it to make sure that it is all there, (cds are usually around 650-700 megs) and that should give u a good idea of what you are downloading. All you would need to do from there is burn the cd image to a disc, using something like ultraISO which has a free trial, nero also has features to burn images, and there are many other programs.

Also, cd images usually come in .iso files, but there are other formats as well, nero has their own but also can read iso files. I would highly reccommend downloading ultraISO, just google for it, it supports many types and is as easy to use as double clicking the .iso file, and clicking the burn button.

Well, I'd highly suspect that most of the torrents he'd find for Windows CDs won't accept his key though. Most pirated copies of Windows use volume license keys (VLK) and those copies typically don't accept single user license or OEM keys from what I've seen and heard.

I would run spybot as well, it works well and finds many things that other programs miss.

hijack this is a tool to figure out what programs are running and where they are running in the registry. The best bet would be for you to paste the log so we can tell you what to delete and what to keep, etc.

Usually this is standard for a lot of spyware forums. I know when I had a bad case of spyware that would just change it's location everytime I tried to get rid of it through ad aware or spyware it, using hijack this I was able to find out how it was doing it and remove it permantly.

Yes, You can use magiciso to burn cd image to cd. that you can get a really CD. or use magicdisc to mount cd image as virtual cd so that you can access all file and folders directly in virtual cd. you can find both software on http://www.magiciso.com/
