    Smile htaccess and IE

    Hello...........

    Please forgive me if this is not the correct place to ask my question....I am no programmer............

    I have an htaccess file that I use to redirect visitors to my web site - who mistype a url. It gives them a friendly "OOOpppssss" page instead of the cryptic "404 no page message"

    It works great with Firefox, and Netscape, but from my computer not at all with IE. No one else seems to have this problem. My computer is NOT the same as where my site is hosted, and I am not working in IE off line (someone else gave me those suggestions)

    This is the actual .htaccess file:
    *********************************************
    <Files ~ "\.dat">
    Order allow,deny
    Deny from all
    </Files>

    # -FrontPage-

    IndexIgnore .htaccess */.??* *~ *# */HEADER* */README* */_vti*

    <Limit GET POST>
    order deny,allow
    deny from all
    allow from all
    </Limit>
    <Limit PUT DELETE>
    order deny,allow
    deny from all
    </Limit>
    AuthName www.candylandcrafts.com
    AuthUserFile /home3/candylandcrafts/public_html/_vti_pvt/service.pwd
    AuthGroupFile /home3/candylandcrafts/public_html/_vti_pvt/service.grp
    ErrorDocument 404 /404errorpage.htm
    *********************************************
    Any suggestions are appreciated. Remember I am not a programmer ... but I can usually follow directions !! :-)

    This sounds like an IE or other software issue and hot an htacess file issue.
    Does the IE browser on your computer allow redirections from anysite? Is there a firewall or some other software running that affects the behavior of IE?

    htaccess file not working in IE

    Hi.........

    Thanks for suggestions. I disabled the firewall but that doesn't help. I don't know how IE can affect a redirect ...... "redirect" doesn't show up in IE search so I have no clue where to look.

    I'll work on the IE angle......... maybe Microsoft can help.

    Thanks!!
