    apache error log

Our error log got to 4gb in a couple of weeks so there was nothing I could do with it, even though I managed to download it from the server, nothing can open it - so I deleted it off the server to start afresh now that the site is live properly.
I expected the file to be recreated by apache when it was needed but this didnt happen, so I created a blank error.log but after a days work its still blank...

You need to restart apache, it's still writing to the old file pointer (which is now nothing). When you restart it'll realize that there's no file and create a new one
